New Waverly entered the final week of district play needing a win to keep postseason hopes alive. The Bulldogs traded punches with Kountze through three quarters before the Lions broke the game open in the fourth.
Quarterback play and special teams kept the Bulldogs in it all night, but a pair of second-half turnovers flipped momentum. Head coach Dean Schaub praised his team's fight afterward.
"We competed. We didn't quit. We've got to clean up the details and keep building," Schaub said.
